Yellow Flag = Caution rider down, hold your position and watch for danger, you may get hurt or hurt someone else while this flag is present and flying if you don't proceed carefully.
So here are some yellow flag issues in this step in order of concern for the invention process.
1st. at this point don't get protective or paranoid someone is going to take your idea, it's the tangible product you invent and the claims are what makes it valuable. At this point there is no invention, it is to your benefit to speak with people that can assist in making your invention your income for years to come, don't get dumb. Most inventions that are worth anything took several people to make it happen, like machinests, marketing agents, patent attorneys, art draftsmen, detailing agents that make sure all specs are correct before you loose your but in mistakes, friends that see things in another perspective, so if you think of distrust at this point slow down, it's not the dishonesty of someone taking your invention, it's deception on the way to success that's going to trip you up. Slow down and caution, you are your own worst enemy with the attitude of distrust in others, it's not difficult to spot a distrustfull person and it's up to you to protect yourself from those individuals.
Protecting Yourself and Your Idea
It seems the best way to protect yourself from many, is to be surrounded by many, that can watch your backside, and in this case scenario we are still lacking anything to protect. To accomplish a sense of value there must first be time spent to merit such, and how we go about this is to now name the project that will allow a specific invention to be named.
Example : Our project name is Manmotor, one word and simple to the point, we now write on paper in our own handwriting, and don't worry about misspelled words they are your words and most likely you will continue to mispell the same words over and over when your writing text, sign and date each page by hand writing. This may not seem important to you now but if someone actually copies the invention later and claims they thought of it first to reduce your ability to collect royalties, then you will be really happy you mispelled the words on the original text, copies are usually always spell checked and perfect. In Federal Court this becomes one little glitch a ceo has when claiming it's his idea and he and many others actually invented it first, go ahead misspell the words.
We now evaluate a name for our new product, this may take quite awhile but I always recommend a one word name, that's how Michael Glenn my first patent attorney from the firm Townsend and Townsend instructed me to structure product names and it works fine. In this instance within the project Manmotor, and the products intended to generate electricity on an individual basis, format the word electron, electro, electricity, and then to perform healthy work we need to excercise, work out, and so on, the new product name comes from adding words that explain the product in a one word name you make up, our new product we will name Electrociser, that's it, now we start our paperwork process.
Now we have intellectual property that will all come into form after this, now is the time to limit disclosure and track your project. This can be accomplished by conventional non disclosures signed by any parties you disclose your project and invention to, one way this assists you is after your invention makes millions of dollars and someone else is trying to limit you from collecting the royalties from "all" your claims, the real time benefit of this is your track record and the witnesses that state fact that you actually were working on the invention at the time the disclosure was signed, it's not the distrust your after, it's the tracking of the development of the invention project.
2nd. protect your investment in time and declare as you go an amount of time spent by you on all your notes, paperwork, research and any other substantials in making this project invention come to life, and put a dollar and cent value on your time at each entry. Limit others from making a penny on the actual product invention by setting the one year clock ticking, this is really an important tool to use as an inventor that will limit others from profiting from "your" invention. This is a goldmine tool to use as the inventor, and this you keep secret to yourself and never tell anyone about the clock ticking. There are two surefire ways to set this clock in motion. First, and my preference the undisputable bill of sale for the first product of your invention off the manufacturing line, this will surely set the clock in motion. Your invention doesn't have to be made yet, you simply explain it in detail about your project, and the invention to come to someone that shows enthusiastic interest in your invention or project, and then get them to agree to purchase the first one for a specific price. Write out a bill of sale and protect it like it's a goose that lays gold eggs, and don't tell anyone not even the person signing the bill of sale about the one year clock ticking. Second, the diputable knowledge printed in a public magazine, where someone could read about the features of your new invention in detail, and if educated in the field of the art, could come up with something simular with the same features as you have explained in clear detail about your new invention, publically, in time after reading the features provided in the articles that were written without the presence of non disclosures, and this includes pictures of other art existing that you furnish in the publication, but have explained your new features and the differences about the two products in detail about your new invention.
Example, an inventor that has several inventions knows beyond doubt that there is absolutely nothing to worry about unless the invention starts making millions of dollars a year right away, and only after the initial justifycation of the project and direction of the invention is written on in text by you. I can't explain in words how important this paperwork is, but we are there with this current new invention ManMotor, so it's on to the inventing process from here.
